An antenna keepout is a requirement for a particular antenna and product configuration. Copying a blank rectangle from another board without understanding the antenna, ground and enclosure can produce a layout that looks tidy but behaves differently.
Distinguish the feed from the radiator
The feedline typically needs a controlled reference environment. The radiating region may require a prescribed ground clearance. Apply the correct rule to each region rather than clearing all copper indiscriminately.
Inspect every relevant layer
Use the antenna supplier’s instructions to determine which copper, components and mechanical features must be excluded. Review inner layers and the reverse side, not just the placement view. Include mounting hardware and cables that enter the region after assembly.
Leave room to tune
Provide the recommended matching-network arrangement and a practical way to measure it. The final enclosure and nearby materials should be present during the relevant tuning work, because the assembled environment can shift the antenna response.
Measure the right outcome
Input match, radiated efficiency and communication range describe different things. A favorable reflection measurement does not by itself prove the antenna is radiating effectively. Compare prototypes with a controlled configuration and document what changed.
